Long Horns announce 2009 schedule

AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas women's soccer team will play 19 regular season matches and one exhibition contest, according to the 2009 schedule released on Wednesday. The 2009 slate is highlighted by seven contests against teams that advanced to the 2008 NCAA Championship and 12 home matches, the most in the 15-year history of the program.

Head Coach Chris Petrucelli , who enters his 11th year at Texas, and the Longhorns will face California, Washington State, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Colorado and Texas A&M, all of which participated in last year's NCAA Tournament. UT will also take on two-time defending SEC Western Division Champion, Louisiana State (Aug. 14), in an exhibition match. 

"The schedule is tough and it will be difficult for a young team," Petrucelli assessed. "I feel like we are putting ourselves in situations where if we play well, we will have chances to win every game, but every game will be a challenge." more

 

West and Castleberry Invited to U20 National Team Camp

Beth WestCOLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M freshman Beth West and soccer signee Kim Castleberry were invited to participate in the U-20 U.S. Women's National Team (WNT) camp April 25-May 2 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

"Everyday thousands and thousands of soccer players across America dream of playing for the USA and representing their country in international competition, so I'm proud of our Aggie players who have earned the opportunity to play for the red, white and blue," A&M head soccer coach G Guerrieri said.

West, a midfielder from Centennial, Colo., started 23 of 24 games for the Aggies in 2008. She earned Soccer Buzz Freshman All-American and All-Central Region honors in addition to being chosen as a member of the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team and the TopDrawerSoccer.com All-Rookie First Team. She was an NSCAA/adidas High School All-American and a member of the U-18, U-17, U-16 and U-15 WNT.  more
