Four Wolverines to Wear Captains Armband for 2009 Season

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's soccer head coach Greg Ryan announced today (Thursday, April 16) that juniors Amy Klippert (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) and Kylie Neschke (Still River, Mass./Tabor Academy), junior/sophomore Alex Jendrusch (Troy, Mich./Athens) and sophomore Jackie Carron (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) will serve as captains for the 2009 campaign.

"I believe these four players will be great leaders for us with each person making a unique and key contribution to our team as we continue rebuilding the Michigan women's soccer program," Ryan said.

The versatile Klippert has started all 56 games she has appeared in, alternating between the backline and the midfield. She scored her first career goal as part of a two-goal outburst against Eastern Michigan last season.

A staple of the Wolverine backline, Neschke has appeared in all but two games over the last three seasons, starting 38 times. Neschke was selected Academic All-Big Ten last season and has a trio of U-M Athletic Academic Achievement awards to her name.

Jendrusch, a midfielder, has appeared in 10 games off the bench over the last two seasons. She has picked up three U-M Athletic Academic Achievement awards and was named Academic All-Big Ten in 2007.

Carron has earned the team Most Valuable Player laurel in each of her first two seasons. The two-time Soccer Buzz All-Great Lakes Region third team honoree has been in the starting lineup for all 37 games over the last two seasons. She earned Academic All-Big Ten as a sophomore and was a member of the Big Ten All-Freshman team in her rookie campaign.

The foursome will lead the Wolverines through their first full season at the U-M Soccer Complex, which opened last October. Michigan went 4-10-5 in 2008, its first season under Ryan.
