DiCicco's voice carries weight to get point across

NEW BRITAIN - When Wethersfield's own Tony DiCicco speaks, the world of women's soccer pays close attention.

And why not? DiCicco's expert guidance has propelled the USA to the top with its first Olympic gold medal in 1996 and a World Cup title in 1999. Talented young ladies come from far and wide to train with him and learn his system.

So when DiCicco barked at his SoccerPlus Connecticut Reds star Tiffany Weimer early in the second half Friday of a close match with the ambitious Lancaster Inferno, the young lady paid close heed.

DiCicco is a build-from-the-back master of the one-touch give-and-go to get the ball up the field. Weimer, in a momentary lapse of concentration, let a shot rip from near the 50-yard line.

DiCicco admonished her by publicly stating that soccer is a team game when played the way he teaches.
