HPU Overwhelmed By Seawolves
Kaneohe, HI (9/1/08)
– At Atherton Field on the Hawai‘i Loa Campus, the HPU women’s soccer team fell to Sonoma State, 6-0. HPU
drop their second match in a row to fall to 1-2, with Sonoma State improving to a perfect 5-0.
The Sea Warriors were clearly outclassed on the day, posting just four shots to the Seawolves’ 31. The
match began inauspiciously, as starting goalkeeper Veronica Ellman was removed from the game in the seventh minute after a collision in front of her goal. Chelsie Sato moved from the
back into goal for the rest of the match, allowing five goals with 13 saves.
Sonoma State took an early lead after Brooke Peterson headed a service from Katie Parucha into the net.
HPU gathered themselves though, bending but not breaking until SSU grabbed their second goal in the 35th minute. They posted their third goal just moments later as Alexica Bosque
dribbled through the Sea Warrior defense for her second goal of the match.
HPU again held tough for much of the second half until Kayce Brawley snuck into the penalty area to put
home the goal, and increase the SSU lead to 4-0.
HPU return to action on Saturday, September 6 to take on Chaminade in a non-conference match. Kickoff is
set for 12:00 p.m. at Atherton Field.
