Kelter Honored

Chugiak's Alev Kelter was named 2008-09 Gatorade Alaska Girls Soccer Player of the Year on Tuesday by The Gatorade Company and ESPN Rise. The award recognizes athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character.

As the recipient of the same award in 2007-'08, the 5-7 midfielder with a 3.40 grade-point average recorded seven goals and nine assists to lead the Mustangs to a 10-2-1 record at the time of selection.

"She's the most athletic girl I've ever seen in my life," said West High soccer coach Mike Oliver in a press release. "She's a big, strong, really physical player with good foot skills."

Kelter has been a first team all-state selection each of the last three years and signed a National Letter of Intent to play hockey and soccer at the University of Wisconsin this fall.
